Welcome to the Artist Spotlight section on OKC Jazz Life! Today, we're excited to feature the remarkable bassist, Rei Wang. Born in Taichung City, Taiwan, Rei's journey through music is a story of global exploration, academic rigor, and versatile performance.

A Strong Academic Foundation

Rei's rich musical background spans both classical and jazz disciplines. After earning her Bachelor of Music in Classical Performance from the prestigious Taipei National University of the Arts, Rei sought to broaden her musical horizons. Her esteemed mentors included renowned bass musician Da-O Rau in Taiwan, and eminent jazz scholars like Dr. Michael Geib, Mr. Lee Rucker, and Mr. Brian Gorrell in the United States. These diverse influences have forged Rei's unique approach to music.

Journey into Jazz

Rei's journey into jazz began in the United States, where she honed her skills in the esteemed Jazz Ensemble at UCO. During this period, she was awarded an International Student Award by Downbeat Magazine, reflecting her exceptional talent and commitment to jazz.
